A jury consists of twelve persons chosen to decide who has the better lawyer. ....
It is the spirit and not the form of law that keeps justice alive. ....
Many laws as certainly make bad men, as bad men make many laws.....
An earthquake achieves what the law promises but does not in practice maintain - the equality of all men....
Justice may be blind, but she has very sophisticated listening devices.....
Any society that needs disclaimers has too many lawyers.....
No man suffers injustice without learning, vaguely but surely, what justice is.....
There is plenty of law at the end of a nightstick.....
If the laws could speak for themselves, they would complain of the lawyers in the first place.....
It's strange that men should take up crime when there are so many legal ways to be dishonest.....
When there's a single thief, it's robbery. When there are a thousand thieves, it's taxation......
The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder....
Knowledge is a sacred cow, and my problem will be how we can milk her while keeping clear of her horns.....
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.....
Knowledge is haunted by the ghost of past opinion....
A love affair with knowledge will never end in heartbreak.....
In your thirst for knowledge, be sure not to drown in all the information....
What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child....
One part of knowledge consists in being ignorant of such things as are not worthy to be known. ....
The greatest obstacle to discovering the shape of the earth, the continents and the ocean was not ignorance but the illusion of knowledge.....
Of course there's a lot of knowledge in universities: the freshmen bring a little in; the seniors don't take much away, so knowledge sort of accumulates....
All our knowledge merely helps us to die a more painful death than animals that know nothing....
Knowledge is the true organ of sight, not the eyes......
We are here and now. Further than that, all knowledge is moonshine....
If we would have new knowledge, we must get a whole world of new questions.....
To be master of any branch of knowledge, you must master those which lie next to it; and thus to know anything you must know all......
Oftentimes the supposed increasers of knowledge have only given a new name, and a worse, to what every body knew before.....
If a little knowledge is dangerous, where is the man who has so much as to be out of danger....?
Knowledge rests not upon truth alone, but upon error also....
We should have a great fewer disputes in the world if words were taken for what they are, the signs of our ideas only, and not for things themselves....
Language forces us to perceive the world as man presents it to us.....
The reaction to any word may be, in an individual, either a mob-reaction or an individual reaction. It is up to the individual to ask himself: Is my reaction individual, or am I merely reacting from my mob-self? When it comes to the so-called obscene words, I should say that hardly one person in a million escapes mob-reaction.......
No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is viscous....
One man's frankness is another man's vulgarity. ....
Euphemisms are unpleasant truths wearing diplomatic cologne......
Slang is a language that rolls up its sleeves, spits on its hands and goes to work....
It's a strange world of language in which skating on thin ice can get you into hot water....
In certain trying circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity furnishes a relief denied even to prayer......
At no time is freedom of speech more precious than when a man hits his thumb with a hammer....
